Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper once had an article mentioning the ideal geographical location, converging many potentials for yacht development in Vietnam and also the obstacles that prevent this industry from reaching the big seas. Talking to reporters, Mr. Pham Van Viet, Chairman of Thu Duc City Yacht Club, expected that the yachting industry could create a new source of revenue for the city by attracting domestic and foreign tourists to explore.
Breakthrough in developing the yacht industry
. Reporter: Saigon River has a strategic position in the transportation network, attracting tourism and economic development of the city. However, this process has not met expectations. According to you, what are the current problems?
+ Mr. Pham Van Viet: The common problem that many economic development and urban tourism projects face is environmental pollution. The Saigon River is also polluted, which can affect the river's beautiful image and negatively impact tourism. At the same time, the lack of comprehensive and effective urban planning can create difficulties when developing infrastructure, transportation and other important projects related to the river. Not to mention, the increase in tourist numbers can pose challenges in tourism management, balancing economic benefits without creating negative impacts on the environment and local communities.
. With prime advantages and convenient inter-provincial connections, what does Ho Chi Minh City need to do to create a breakthrough for the cruise industry and riverside economic development?
+ In my opinion, it is necessary to build and upgrade transportation infrastructure connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast provinces. At the same time, develop marinas and riverside service centers to attract tourists and yachtsmen.
Along with that, build sustainable development planning for riverside areas, including land use management and construction of tourist and resort urban areas. Encourage utility projects such as restaurants, hotels, shopping and entertainment centers... Create favorable conditions for businesses operating in the cruise industry by reducing regulations, taxes and related fees. Encourage public-private partnership (PPP) programs to build and manage cruise lines.
Create a highlight on the tourist map
. Along the banks of the Saigon River, there are many ideal spots to develop a marina. What do you think about this direction?
+ Developing the cruise industry along the banks of the Saigon River is a promising direction and can bring many benefits to the region. Developing the yachting industry can create a new source of income for the city by attracting domestic and international tourists to participate in yachting activities and explore the river. Other businesses and services can benefit from increased riverside tourism and entertainment activities.
This trend can promote investment in cruise ship infrastructure, helping to improve amenities and create convenience for tourists and businesses. We should cooperate with international partners, yacht manufacturers and foreign organizations to promote the brand of Ho Chi Minh City. In short, yacht development can bring many multi-dimensional benefits to the city, from tourism to culture and economy, creating a vibrant and unique living space.
. Ho Chi Minh City has issued many plans to promote riverside economic development. So how to quickly achieve this goal?
+ I think it is necessary to build a sustainable urban planning plan for both banks of the Saigon River. This includes identifying areas for commercial, service, housing and park development to maximize benefits.
In addition, identify and develop specific economic areas along the river, focusing on industries that can develop strongly such as tourism, entertainment and trade.
Develop riverside tourist attractions, including resort areas, restaurants and entertainment activities to attract tourists and increase income capacity for the area.
. What suggestions do you have to promote yachts reaching the ocean and the riverside economy to prosper?
+ I expect the City will create a positive cooperative environment between local authorities and businesses. The city needs to commit to investing in cruise ship infrastructure, including cruise ports, berths and other amenities.
Along with that, develop a synchronous urban planning plan for the riverside area, ensuring careful economic and environmental considerations, sustainability and long-term development.
